Breaks about even on the bank.... though it's probably saving me a bit of money now that gasoline prices are hitting the 4 dollar mark. I don't know the exact stats on emissions - but the biodiesel burns a lot cleaner - and it makes my old boat run a lot happier.
Project Summary
My name is J.otto Seibold and I have been driving a 30 year old Mercedes 330D that is lovingly called ODB (Old Dirty Brown). Like many of us I have opposed the war in Iraq since before it began. And after the mass failure to influence national policy I decided to up my personal policy. One step was to pay attention to every dollar I put out. I was conscious of fuel and like everyone felt I was strapped over an oil barrel.
My Inspiration
Leave it to Neil Young to inspire me to get off the gas pump. And my pacifistic ways.
My Goals
To keep my money away from oil.
The Process
One night, I decided to drive to go see Neil Young perform his living with war album. I knew that Neil was traveling in a biodiesel bus so I decided to finally buy some to honor his lead.
And the moment I started the car after my first fill up at Berkeleys Biofuel Oasis I felt an immense sense of relief. I was no longer supporting, against my ideals, the crude trap that is our oil war. I have continued using recycled biofuel (it comes from a potato chip factory!) for the last two years. I don't preach about it. I don't need to. Because all I was after was peace of mind...and I got that!
