replaced lights we used most first, then changed the rest that we could. only a few halogen lights left in the house, no incandescents.

wanted to do the right thing for the environment and save money on our bills at the same time. i'd heard that energy-efficient lighting is a really good (and easy) place to start.

same as what inspired me.

went to The Home Depot for most of the regular bulbs. for those lights that work on dimmers in our home, tho, went to Target to buy the right CFLs, as THD didn't have them.

for the fixtures: we had some old and ugly fixtures that came with our home. instead of simply replacing the bulbs, we decided to replace the entire fixtures. researched online and discovered Sea Gull Lighting sells through Lowe's. we liked their decorative energy-efficient fixtures, so ordered 3 of them via Lowe's. ended up saving even more energy and getting more light for it, than we would have by simply replacing the bulbs in the previous fixtures

our friends and family aren't surprised by this- we've done a lot of things to save energy around our house and proudly tell anyone who'll listen! we'd definitely recommend changing out lights to a friend. we're happy with our CFLs - saving money, changing fewer bulbs because they last longer, and doing the right thing. all good!

if you're replacing a bulb for a dimmer switch, buy one that says on the box that it's made for this purpose. you'll be disappointed if you don't!

we're looking at replacing at least one of our large, leaky windows in our home with an ENERGY STAR bay window. most of the others are already new.
